“Conservation” is not a particularly evocative word. But since the concept is so essential to our future, we have to get past the semantics. It’s truly irrelevant whether we call ourselves conservationists or environmentalists or stewards or caretakers. The important thing is that we respect the world around us and stand up for future generations.

Let’s be absolutely clear. We’re facing huge problems. Global warming. Ocean acidification. Habitat destruction and fragmentation. Pollution. Resource depletion. But the worst of it is that we’ve somehow forgotten that we’re tied to the natural world. Everything we do to the planet, we do to ourselves. Every single thing.

At the end of the day, we have a choice to make. We can choose to live sustainably, or we can choose a darker and more dangerous path toward the future. It’s that simple.
